Ranger Pro Mark Rose Wins FLW Tour Event on Lake Travis

22 Feb
First back-to-back FLW Tour winner in 20-year history

FLIPPIN, Ark. (Feb. 22, 2017) – Ranger Pro Mark Rose won the 2017 FLW Tour event on Lake Travis, Feb. 19, to become the first ever angler to win back-to-back FLW Tour events in its 20-year history. The angler won the $100,000 first-place prize and added $25,000 in Ranger Cup money. Rose won the season opener for the FLW Tour two weeks prior on Lake Guntersville.

By participating in the Ranger Cup program, Rose has brought home an additional $50,000 during the last two FLW Tour events.

“The Ranger Cup bonus is nice,” said Rose. “You get to run a really great boat and win money too if you have a good tournament. I have benefited from both of those and all I had to do was run a great boat.”

In each of the last two victories, Rose has either been chasing, or been chased by fellow Ranger pro Bryan Thrift.  Rose charged from behind to catch Thrift by 12 ounces on Lake Travis. On Guntersville, Rose held off a final-day rush from Thrift to win the season-opening event.

“I’m just really overwhelmed with thanksgiving,” said Rose. “It’s a true blessing to come out on top on who I consider to be the best fisherman twice. I’m kind of in awe right now.”

During pre-fishing, Rose did find fish on his go-to offshore ledges but could not hook up with any large fish. Rose spent day one up the Colorado River and brought in 11 pounds, nine ounces, putting the angler in 40th place.

“I did find three spots that held fish but I was catching a lot of little ones,” said Rose. “I really thought my bigger fish were up the river. I was using the deeper fish as my back up plan.”

Rose opted to fish the deeper waters of the lake on day two and reaped the benefits by finding quality fish late in the day.

“I found out that my deeper fish were getting bigger and I started fishing them differently,” said Rose. “I basically started fishing deeper. It seemed the bigger fish were out deeper than during practice.”

The angler divided his remaining days between deep, offshore locations in the mornings and shallow docks in the afternoons. Rose’s main baits were a Strike King football-head jig with a Strike King Rage Crawler in green-pumpkin, Strike King Rage Bug and a six-inch shad-colored swimbait.

Rose rebounded with 17 pounds, three ounces on day two and weighed 15 pounds, 13 ounces on day three, bringing him within a pound of final-day leader Bryan Thrift.

“I knew that I had one area where the boat ramp was on the lower end of the lake that if I could ever get three or four of those fish to fire, they were the right ones,” said Rose. “One the final day, I got two of them and caught a third one in a nearby shallow area, which gave me three good ones. I knew if I could get two keepers to go with them, I would have a shot.”

Rose’s final-day weight of 14 pounds, nine ounces was enough to overtake Thrift’s final-day 12 pounds, 13 ounces. Rose’s victory paid him $125,000, which included $25,000 in Ranger Cup money, and became the first back-to-back FLW Tour winner in the process.

The next stop for Rose is the Harris Chain in Florida, March 9-12.

Ranger® Boats New 2260 Bay Ranger to Debut at Miami International Boat Show

16 Feb
Affordability meets quality craftsmanship and big-time performance

FLIPPIN, Ark. (February 16, 2017) – Ranger® Boats’ latest offering from its acclaimed Saltwater Series – the 2260 Bay Ranger – will debut at the 2017 Miami International Boat Show, Feb. 16-20, at Miami Marine Stadium Park and Basin. The all-new 2260 Bay Ranger packs big-time performance and Ranger’s legendary quality in a value-priced package.

While the 21-foot, five-inch bay boat is the smallest offering of the Ranger Saltwater Series, its enhanced design delivers big-water capabilities. Rated for a 200 horsepower outboard, the 2260 Bay Ranger provides high performance with smaller horsepower motors and is more maneuverable than larger rigs. And like all Ranger models, the 2260 Bay Ranger is available with a wide range of precision-matched and factory-rigged outboards, giving anglers a wide variety of engine options unmatched anywhere in the marine industry.

“The 2260 Bay Ranger gives boaters Ranger’s high-quality performance and features at an entry-level price,” said Ranger Saltwater Business Manager Larry Jett. “Whether chasing redfish in the shallows or heading out off-shore, the 2260 delivers more value with the tradition of quality craftsmanship Ranger owners have come to expect.”

The center console design and improved non-skid pattern on flooring and decks provide a stable, 360-degree casting platform to work fish end-to-end or side-to-side. Agile and able to draft in as little as 12 inches of water, the 2260 Bay Ranger sports an ultra-stable 101-inch beam and Ranger’s legendary upright, level floatation standards.

Standard features include a pultruded fiberglass transom, fiberglass stringer system, aerated livewell, custom-fitted premium marine upholstery, leaning post, stainless steel tie cleats and automatic bilge pump. At the console, a host of gauges display speed, rpm, fuel, trim and water pressure levels. Rod holders adorn each side of the console for quick access to fishing gear.

The front casting deck, with molded-in steps, doubles as anchor locker along with port and starboard rod boxes for rods up to eight feet. Molded-in rear jump seats fold down for a convenient back casting deck and give access to a boarding ladder.

The all-new 2260 Bay Ranger comes paired with its own single-axle trailer for easy towing. Equipped with aluminum steel fenders, the trailer includes an aluminum frame, torsion axle suspension, locking, swing-away tongue, L.E.D. lights, aluminum wheels, a patented center swing jack stand, and Ranger’s COOL Hub® lubrication system as standard equipment.

Miami International Boat Show attendees can see the new 2260 Bay Ranger at the Ranger Boats at booth B205.

Ranger Pro Mark Rose Wins FLW Tour Season Opener on Lake Guntersville

9 Feb
Arkansas angler adds $25,000 in Ranger Cup money

FLIPPIN, Ark. (Feb. 9, 2017) – Ranger Pro Mark Rose won the 2017 FLW Tour season opener on Lake Guntersville, Feb. 5. The angler’s four-day total of 79 pounds, 11 ounces fought off a final-day charge from Bryan Thrift to win the $100,000 first-place prize along with another $25,000 bonus in Ranger Cup money.

“It’s always nice to get off to a good start,” said Rose. “Fishing is such a mental game. Getting on the upswing really helps things. You never know how the first one will go and everything worked flawlessly.”
The Guntersville win marks Rose’s seventh victory on a Tennessee River reservoir.

“I understand things really well on that river,” said Rose. “I grew up on the Mississippi River. The habitat on the Tennessee and the Mississippi are very similar and this helps to understand current, baitfish and bass movement.”

Rose spent the majority of his time fishing Browns Creek. He targeted prespawn fish along inside grass lines. A cold front moved in before the start of day three, along with strong winds that stained Rose’s productive shallow grass area.

“The water temperature was cold,” said Rose. “The fish would really turn on when the sun would come out. When there was no sun, you had to make adjustments – slow down, move or whatever you needed to do. It was a constant on-the-water decision thing with the cold weather we were having.”

Rose eventually changed tactics and targeted rock and wood along the bank. The adjustment paid off with Rose bringing in 19 pounds even on day three. The angler’s final day started with four quick bites, but didn’t get another bite for the next several hours. While many anglers would falter at this unfortunate downturn, Rose relied on his faith to see him through.

“I put everything in the Lord’s hands and I lean on that a whole lot,” said Rose. “It gives me comfort and peace. Knowing that if I fish as hard as I can and honor God in the process, I can leave the results up to him. I know that by doing that formula, I am content with whatever I get. Whether it is first, last or anything in between.”

Rose persevered and was able to cull up with a 3 ½-pounder and with only a few minutes left before the weigh-in, Rose landed a five-plus-pound fish to bring in a final-day weight of 18 pounds, three ounces.

Rose has had a long-standing relationship with Ranger Boats. Since his college years and throughout his 18-year professional career, Rose has always driven a Ranger boat. As a result, he’s racked up thousands of dollars in Ranger Cup money over the course of his acclaimed career. This long tenure with Ranger also gives the angler the confidence to concentrate on the fishing aspects of competition knowing he can rely on his Ranger boat.

“We had freezing cold temperatures and you have to be comfortable out there,” said Rose. “I am really comfortable in a Ranger boat. It brings out the most of your abilities because you don’t have to worry about your boat.”

With the tournament season in full swing, Rose now has his sights set on the upcoming FLW Tour event on Lake Travis in Texas on Feb. 16-19.
